Youth Travel (Squirt/PeeWee)

Our Youth Travel program is designed for players who want to make a serious commitment to the game of hockey. These teams get more ice time and travel to other rinks to participate in appropriately balanced competition. We will field multiple travel teams at the Squirt and Pee Wee, which compete in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) and the Central States Development Hockey League (CSDHL). New for the 2023/2024 season, Wilmette and Winnetka will offer a combined program for Bantams and Midgets playing under the North Shore Hockey Club name.

Ages

Our Youth Travel hockey program is for Squirts and PeeWees.

Bantam players will play for the combined Wilmette and Winnetka program, North Shore Hockey Club, for the 2024/2025 season. Additional information and registration for Bantams will be found at NSHC website in July.

When

Conditioning clinics and tryouts will begin August 17th, with team practices starting September 3rd. The season will run through the end of February / early March.

Where

Practices are held at Centennial Ice Rink in Wilmette or North Shore Ice Arena in Northbrook.

Home games are at Centennial and North Shore, with away games in surrounding communities, typically not more than 30-90 minutes away.

Practices

Each team will have three team practices per week. Teams will also have off-ice conditioning throughout the season.

Games

Teams will play 30-40 games, including seeding rounds, regular season, playoffs, friendly games and tournaments. Teams will also compete in two or three tournaments during the regular season.

Youth Travel teams will participate in either NIHL or CSDHL. For example, in the 2024/2025 season, we will field CSDHL teams at the following levels:

  • Squirt Minor (2015)
  • Squirt Major (2014)
  • PeeWee Prospects (2012/2013)
  • Pee Wee Minor (2013)
  • Pee Wee Major (2012)

**Bantam teams will play in the joint Wilmette and Winnetka program (North Shore Hockey Club)

Jerseys

All teams will wear the Wilmette Jr. Trevians game uniforms. New players will need to purchase a set of home/away jerseys. Information on fittings and purchasing game jerseys will be posted in July.

All squirt and peewee players must wear Jr. Trevians game shells for all games. If you are a new player or need a new pair of shells, you will be able to purchase a pair during registration.

All players will purchase home and away game socks, and a pair of practice socks as part of registration. Distribution will occur at the beginning of the season after tryouts.

Players will wear their existing practice jersey. New players and returning players who need a new practice jersey can purchase one during the registration process.

Goalies

Goalies receive a fair discount off skater fees for their age group.

Goalies in our Youth Travel program will participate in weekly goalie clinics along with all our other goalies on travel teams.

Goalies at the Squirt and above levels will also receive goalie instruction every other week as part of a team practice or game evaluation session.

Extra Costs

Each team manager maintains a team fund to cover tournament expenses for the team, coach and any other additional expenses the team manager/coach may anticipate. At the start of the season, each family will be asked for a deposit to get that account started. The amount varies by team, but is typically $400-$700.
